In recent years, much attention has been given to protecting and conserving Ontario's beautiful, useful and sometimes rare native plant material.
Southern Ontario is on the northern fringe of the vast Carolinian Forest area of North America, which at one time stretched from South Carolina to Northern Ontario. Many of the Carolinian plant species are very rare and on the verge of extinction.
Planting of these plants on private lands and the use of native Carolinian species in landscaping will help to assure the continuation of this valuable part of our Canadian Heritage for future generations to enjoy.
